The 7 Best Martin Scorcese Films Empty The 7 Best Martin Scorcese Films

Thu Apr 11, 2019 8:37 pm
7. The Aviator

A great biopic about Howard Hughes, the revolutionary filmmaker and pilot. lt's a great movie, as are most Scorcese flicks.

6. Cape Fear

Going down a darker path, this movie showcased Robert DeNiro's ability to look absolutely ruthless. While it is good in its own right, it's not as good as the next 5 films.

5. Gangs of New York

Gangs of New York was one of those movies featuring a role from Daniel Day-Lewis that many enjoyed, my brother included. While I'm not a fan of Daniel Day-Lewis myself, this is a decent movie about gang war in at the turn of the 20th century.

4. Casino

Casino just so happens to be placed higher than Gangs of New York due to it being one of those memories featuring the big talents of Robert DeNiro and Joe Pesci. Not only is the storyline about a Casino with some criminal influence pretty good, but it's that iconic scene where DeNiro smashes a dude's fingers with a hammer that gives the movie its placement on this list. Scorcese is known for making movies with brutal scenes....I love them!

3. Goodfellas

Goodfellas is known to be one of Scorcese's best films of all time gaining a huge fan following. Ray Liotta, Joe Pesci, and Robert DeNiro's performances are all so fantastic (along with the rest of the cast). It's mainly Liotta and Pesci who make the movie what it is. Pesci has always been great in crime films, especially this true crime flick.

2. The Wolf of Wall Street

Wolf of Wall Street is my number 2 for so many reasons that I can't begin to explain. First of all, Leonardo DiCaprio's performance is just so enjoyable that you can't help to realize that this was a true crime story of Jordan Belfort. Second, so many of the crazy antics and dialogue just can't keep you from laughing to death. While some of the events could have been embellished, they don't stop the movie from being really good. I also make this movie my number 2 as this was one of the movies I deeply enjoyed watching with my brother when I was in high school.

1. The Departed

The Departed is star-studded with so many great actors, but the lead Leonardo DiCaprio, Jack Nicholson, and Matt Damon put on an iconic performance for the ages. It's a story about rats from different angles. Leo is a rat for the Boston police going undercover into the Irish mafia. Nicholson is the leader of the Irish mafia who is later revealed to be a rat for the feds. And Damon is the rat for the mafia. The ending is a little bit of a shocker, but of course no good end came for the rats. It's an amazing story all around, and this movie is what made me appreciate and enjoy just what Jack Nicholson could do. Martin Scorcese isn't just a filmmaker, he's an artist.
